Behrend softball team wins AMCC regular-season championship

The Penn State Behrend softball team won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regular-season championship with a sweep of Pitt-Greensburg on April 28. The Lions will host the AMCC tournament, which begins May 9.

The Penn State Behrend softball team won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regular-season championship with a sweep of Pitt-Greensburg on April 28. The Lions will host the AMCC tournament, which begins May 9.

Behrend’s baseball and track and field teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Daniel Boehme, a junior from Peters Township, hit a two-run homerun in the first game against Alfred State. Thomas Nicely, a sophomore from Delmont, hit a two-run homerun in the nightcap. Anthony Slate, a senior from Hopewell, recorded his 100th career hit in the opener against Wells.

Softball

Kayla Lindberg, a senior from Austinburg, Ohio, struck out a career-high 11 batters in the nightcap against Wells. She gave up just one hit in five innings of work.

Men’s track and field

Dan Dabrowski, a senior from Harborcreek, won the discus event at the St. Francis Red Flash Open with a 48.55-meter throw. Ryan Festa, a senior from Horsham, won the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.50 meters – a season-best.

Women’s track and field

Bridget McMaster, a freshman from Geneseo, New York, won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the St. Francis Red Flash Open, finishing in 13:03.65. It was the first time she had competed in the event. Madison Kappeler, a senior from Cecil, placed second in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.45 meters.
