State Behrend makes earning your degree as an adult both exciting and
enriching, in a convenient and comfortable environment.
At Penn State Behrend, an adult student is defined as one who:
- graduated high school four or more years ago
- for GED completers, have had their "graduating class" out of high
school four of more years
- served on active duty in the Armed Forces
- holds adult responsibilities such as caring for one's children or
aging parents
- holds multiple roles such as spouse/partner, employee,
student.

First-Year
Students
First-year applicants are those who have earned a high school
diploma by the time they enroll at Penn State Behrend, and meet certain
GPA and math unit criteria.
Transfer
Students
Transfer students are those who have attempted at least 18
credits at a regionally accredited college or university after high
school.
Non-Degree
Students
Applicants who were not granted provisional admission or
whose applications cannot be processed in time for the next semester,
or those looking to take courses but not toward a degree.
To-Degree
Status Students
Once a non-degree student has completed the required number of Penn
State credits, he or she may apply for degree status.

Provisional Students
Provisional applicants are typically adults who have earned a high
school diploma or GED by the time they enroll but don’t meet GPA or
math unit requirements.
Provisional Re-Entry Students
Provisional re-entry is for students who were previously
enrolled at Penn State as provisional students and who want to
return to the University.
Re-Enrolling
Students
Students who have previously been enrolled at a Penn State campus and
need to re-apply.
World Campus
Students
This is an alternative way to obtain Penn State credit for the
adult student who may need options outside of the classroom.
