The Math Options Career Day is held every year early in May. The day's activities include challenge contests, workshops, an activity fair, and keynote presentations by women in careers as diverse as veterinary science, engineering, and the computing industry. Prizes are awarded for the school challenge contest winners and gifts are given to each participant.
Workshops are hands-on and have included designing bridges, examining animals, building simple motors and solving CSI mysteries; just to mention a few. Participants leave the program with a good sense of career options and the importance of taking math and science courses in high school. To obtain information on how to participate in the Career Day, 7th and 8th grade girls should contact their math and/or science teachers. If your school does not currently participate in Math Options, then email a school contact to us at YouthOutreach@psu.edu.
