Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is again hosting this highly successful conference. Come learn from industry experts. There will be half-hour presentations in the mornings, with three concurrent sessions on injection molding technology, materials technology, and executive/management practices. The afternoons will feature a choice of three-hour tutorials, with many including a hands-on component. A networking session will be held after the tutorials on June 22.

Application of Thermal Analysis Techniques to Plastics - August 2016

  • Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) -material identification, blend compatibility, impurity detection, determination of melt temperature
  • Flash DSC - establish dependence of % crystallinity on cooling rate / heating rate, evaluate molded-in orientation and flow-induced crystallinity via first heat of molded samples.

Scientific Cooling - May 2016

  • Learn energy principles in relation to specific polymers.
  • Understand how Heat Transfer and Energy Flow affect part quality and cycle time.
  • Create Heat Budget and Balancing using Energy Flow calculations.
  • Understand Reynolds Number’s relationship to Turbulent Flow.
  • Learn Turbulent Flow’s impact on sustainable molding practices.
  • Study the 3 R’s of Scientific Cooling to develop and maintain efficient cooling setup and processes.
  • Review coolant delivery and distribution principles.

Proctored Exam Testing Center

Penn State Behrend offers on-site testing for:

  • students in World Campus courses taking proctored exams
  • students from any university taking a proctored exam


Testing Center Hours:

You may schedule an exam during the Community and Workforce Programs office hours, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. The exam must be completed by 5:00 p.m. and the exam will be scheduled based on the exam allotment time. Please arrive 10 minutes before your exam.

The Advanced Manufacturing Forum—Penn State will be held Friday, October 9. The 2015 event is presented by the School of Engineering and Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend. Hosted in the past by the Penn State Smeal College of Business, the event moves to Erie, PA, for the first time in 2015.

Capital Campaign Coaching will be held this September and October at Penn State Behrend.A certificate program designed for non-profit leaders who hope to launch a capital campaign within the next five years will be offered this fall at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. The six-week non-credit program begins Sept. 11.
