Meet the Staff

Andy Herrera

Andy Herrera, Director
Andy has been with the College for more than 10 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish Literature and History as well as a master’s degree in Education Law. Andy has received numerous awards including Best Advisor Award in 2004 and 2006 as well as several others for his cultural diversity programming. He enjoys rooting for the Nittany Lions on Saturdays, traveling, and learning about different cultures.



  Nyima Porter

Nyima Porter, Assistant Director
Nyima is an Erie native who holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s Degree in Social Work as well as a certificate in Non-Profit Management. Nyima oversees the FastStart Behrend Mentorship Program and serves as adviser to various student organizations. She also coordinates a number of cultural awareness programs. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Michelle Brown Michelle Brown, Disability Services Coordinator
Michelle has extensive experience working in this field. Prior to coming to Behrend, Michelle worked with the Barber National Institute. Michelle holds a bachelor’s degree from Allegheny College and master’s degree in business from Penn State Behrend. During her spare time, she enjoys time with her family and their dog Buster.
  Debbie Hayes Debbie Hayes, Administrative Support Staff
Debbie has been with Penn State Erie for over 20 years. Her major areas of responsibilities include services to international students. She enjoys spending her free time gardening and visiting her children and grandchildren.


Mary Mischler

Mary Mischler, Staff Assistant
Mary enjoys being part of the Educational Equity Office. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Penn State University. She is honored to be able to work at her alma mater. Outside of work, Mary enjoys raising her five children alongside her husband of 20 years. Together, Mary and Mike attend a multitude of school activities and athletic events in which their children participate.
