This fall, Penn State Behrend's theatre program will be producing the worldwide phenomenon "Almost, Maine" written by John Cariani. One of the most widely produced plays of the last few years, productions of this magical, off-beat romantic comedy (which premiered in 2006) have broken attendance and box-office records at numerous theatres across the globe.

Something strange is in the air on a cold winter night when the northern lights visit the mythical town of Almost, Maine. The various residents of this rustic community find themselves falling in and out of love in surprising and often hilarious ways. Born and raised in Presque Isle, Maine, Cariani explores themes of love and loss through a series of nine short vignettes that fluctuate between the whimsical, deeply poignant and occasionally surreal. Like the inhabitants of another theatrical New England small town, Grove’s Corners (in Thornton Wilder’s Our Town), the good-natured characters of Almost, Maine seek companionship and human connection as they try to unravel the most deceptively simple of life’s mysteries.
