Along with the Greater Erie Alliance for Equality, Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is co-sponsoring “Intersections of Equality: An Educational Symposium” on November 2, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Black Conference Center located on the Penn State Behrend campus.
Dr. Charisse Nixon, Chair of Penn State Behrend’s Psychology department will be one of the keynote speakers, presenting “Bullying and Anti-Bullying.”
This symposium will explore a number of the intersections in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender lives, with respect to the movement for full legal and social equality in the United States. Our keynote presentations will include:
- Keynote Session 1: “Lives of LGBT People in PA,” a panel presentation on the successes and trials of LGBT life in PA.
- Keynote Session 2: “Bullying and Anti-Bullying,” by Dr. Charisse Nixon (Penn State Behrend) and The Crime Victim Center of Erie County.
- Keynote Session 3: “Intersections of Race, Gender, and Sexuality,” by Dr. Theresa Vescio (Penn State University, University Park)
- Keynote Session 4: “Equality Legislation in PA,” by The Honorable Brian Sims, PA House Representative (Pennsylvania’s first openly gay state representative).
