The Computer Science and Software Engineering Department at Penn State Behrend invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position starting fall 2016 at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are seeking applications from candidates with a commitment to excellence in undergraduate education and research scholarship. A Ph.D. in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field is required. Candidates should have the ability to teach Computer Science and Software Engineering courses as well as develop a program of research. PLASTICS ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY FACULTY POSITION
Tenure Track Faculty Position

Penn State Behrend invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in Plastics Engineering Technology at the rank of Assistant Professor starting fall 2016. Exceptionally qualified candidates will be considered for appointment at higher rank depending on qualifications. Candidates should be committed to excellence in undergraduate education and to developing a sustainable applied research program that includes, but is not limited to, industry supported research. Technical areas of interest for the position include plastics manufacturing (including tooling and design), polymer process simulation, process-based polymer rheology, mechanical and thermal analysis, and polymer characterization. Ideal candidates will have a thorough understanding of plastics processing methods, tooling and simulation. A Ph.D. in plastics, polymer, mechanical, materials, chemical engineering, or related field is required. Two years or more of industry experience is preferred. Salary is competitive.

Dual – Appointment in Business and Engineering - Non-Tenure Track Faculty Position


Penn State Behrend invites applications for a Non-Tenure Track Faculty Position at the rank of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or Assistant Professor to teach in the College’s interdisciplinary programs in business and engineering beginning August 2016. Primary appointment will be either in the Black School of Business or the School of Engineering. Successful candidates will demonstrate the potential for outstanding teaching and must be a team player with the ability to work with and across disciplines. Qualified candidates should have a master’s level degree in engineering or business with industry experience in new product development and/or manufacturing. Candidates with a Ph.D. or DBA in Industrial Engineering, Operations and Supply Chain Management, Operations Strategy, or a closely related field with experience in new product development, quality management, operations strategy, and/or manufacturing are preferred.

This position will involve teaching in the College’s distinct B.S. in Interdisciplinary Business with Engineering Studies (IBE) and Master of Manufacturing Management (MMM) degree programs as well as advising capstone design projects. Candidates will be expected to teach using the tools of strategic management, engineering, and manufacturing concepts and principles to instruct students in the evaluation of new product introduction including feasibility, design, manufacturability, and intellectual property rights.

ENGINEERING RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Penn State Behrend has an immediate opening for a Research Associate in the School of Engineering, reporting to the School’s Associate Director for Research and Technology Transfer.  The position involves a broad range of ongoing and emerging research activities in the School’s departments.   The position requires an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Science, or Engineering Technology and a completed graduate degree by the start date.  The successful candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: materials science and engineering, polymer and/or composite science and engineering, polymer process technology, material characterization.  

This is an exciting opportunity for a broadly capable, hands-on researcher who wishes to expand their research competency through engagement in a diverse range of applied research initiatives.  The School anticipates negotiation of a one year contract with excellent opportunities for further career development.  Salary is competitive and includes a full benefits package.

Responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to:

1.  Working directly with faculty members in planning, executing and reporting on funded research programs.
2.  Interfacing directly with industrial and government research sponsors to ensure that project obligations are met.
3.  Identification and securing of funded research opportunities, associated proposal development and reporting deliverables.
4.  Ensuring that critical research activities are completed on time and within budget constraints.  These include experimental design, testing and data analysis, experimental resource design, fabrication and/or acquisition.
5.  Working with multi-disciplinary teams of students and faculty assembled to meet sponsor needs. 
6.  Taking responsibility for the School’s expanding capability in material characterization, including environmental scanning electron microscopy, scanning calorimetry, dynamic analysis, rheological characterization and gravimetric analysis.
7.  Participation in strategic planning activities aimed at further strengthening the research posture of Penn State Behrend.

The School of Engineering currently offers degree programs in Computer, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, and Software Engineering as well as Electrical & Computer, Mechanical, and Plastics Engineering Technology and Computer Science.  The School maintains and seeks to expand research presence in all of these disciplines.  The successful candidate will be given an exciting and challenging opportunity to be engaged in this wide and developing spectrum of initiatives.  The School also currently houses a Medical Plastics Center, an Applied Energy Center, and an Applied Research and Design Center.  Additionally, focused activities in additive manufacturing, turbomachinery design & analysis and computational fluid dynamics are in various stages of planning.  The Research Associate will provide critical support to these centers and initiatives as they emerge.
