COMPUTER SCIENCE AND SOFTWARE ENGINEERING FACULTY POSITIONS

The Computer Science and Software Engineering Department at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College invites applicants for a non-tenure track faculty position in Computer Science starting fall 2014. We are seeking applications from candidates with a commitment to excellence in undergraduate education and research scholarship and the ability to teach CS core courses as well as developing elective courses. Preferred areas of research experience are in the area of database, cloud computing, parallel/distributed computing, or information retrieval. Candidates with a Ph.D. and prior teaching experiences are strongly preferred, while exceptional candidates with a Master of Science will also be considered. Rank will be commensurate with experience.

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING NON-TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION
 

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, invites applicants for a non-tenure track position starting fall 2014. Successful candidates will have a commitment to teaching undergraduate education and to developing a sustainable program of research scholarship.  Preference will be given to those with specialties in automation, embedded systems, robotics, systems integration, and industrial controls.  A broad-base in teaching ability should include circuit analysis, microelectronics, and control systems.  Teaching and industrial experience are strongly desired and rank is commensurate with experience.  A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field is required.

MECHANICAL AND INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING FACULTY POSITIONS

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING FACULTY POSITION:

The Mechanical and Industrial Engineering department at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, invites applicants for a non-tenure track faculty position starting fall 2014.  We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic faculty member in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in the area(s) of system dynamics, & control, and measurements, & instrumentation. Candidates should demonstrate the following abilities: to innovate and adopt various teaching methods in the classroom; to develop and teach labs; and to involve and guide undergraduate students in applied research and senior design projects. Applicants will be expected to develop a program of research, preferably in one of the following areas: manufacturing, materials, biomechanics, or education pedagogy. Candidates should demonstrate the potential for research and publication, outstanding teaching, advising and service. Applications from members of groups traditionally underrepresented on engineering faculties are encouraged.

Candidates with a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline and prior teaching & research experience are strongly preferred, and exceptional candidates with a Master of Science will also be considered. Rank will be commensurate with experience.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY FACULTY POSITION

 

Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, invites applications for two positions:  a tenure track and a non-tenure track faculty appointment in the Mechanical Engineering Technology Department beginning fall 2014. The successful candidate will have a commitment to undergraduate education and develop a program of research scholarship.  Areas of teaching interest include engineering graphics, CAD, solid mechanics, FEA, manufacturing, materials, measurement, and/or machine design. Compatible fields of research may include manufacturing, additive manufacturing, materials, energy, design and design systems. The positions require the following:

1.  A Ph.D. degree in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial, or closely related engineering discipline is required for the tenure-track position.

2.  A master’s or Ph.D. degree in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial, or closely related engineering discipline is required for the non-tenure track position. This is a continuing, fixed-term, multi-year position.

For both positions, registration as a professional engineer and prior college-level teaching experience, along with a minimum of five years of industry experience are preferred.

PLASTICS ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY FACULTY POSITION

Plastics Engineering Technology Faculty Position: Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, invites applicants for a tenure track faculty position starting fall 2014. Qualified candidates will be considered for appointment at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor. Candidates should be committed to undergraduate education and to developing a sustainable research program. Technical areas of interest for the position include plastics manufacturing (including tooling and design), plastics flow simulation, polymer material rheology, characterization, formulation, and development, nano-materials, and micro-molding. A Ph.D. in plastics, mechanical, materials, chemical engineering, or related field is required and a minimum of two years of industry experience is preferred.

PART-TIME FACULTY POSITIONS

Part-Time Opportunities for 2014/2015 Academic Year

The School of Engineering at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, has a need for part-time Instructors in engineering disciplines for fall (August) and spring (January). The 10 positions are dependent upon class enrollments; enrollments of less than 9 students may necessitate cancelling the class and position. Salary is competitive. Responsibilities include using a syllabus and course materials approved by the School of Engineering to teach courses offered in our baccalaureate programs. Required qualifications include evidence of an earned Master of Science degree in an engineering discipline or a baccalaureate degree with significant industrial experience; evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching including use of current technology; evidence of a commitment to working collegially and with individuals from diverse backgrounds, commensurate with experience. ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT COORDINATOR
 

The School of Engineering at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is seeking applications for the Administrative Support Coordinator. Reporting to the school director and supporting two associate directors, this position has school-wide impact leading and managing the direction and activities of the school’s office and its staff. Typical work activities include, but are not limited to, supervision and evaluation of assigned staff; monitoring of budgets; compilation and/or research of information for complex reports and accreditation materials; human resources administration of: faculty contracts, contract renewals, promotion and tenure, annual and extended reviews, sabbatical applications, faculty searches, preparation and processing international visa documentation; maintaining department-related documents; composing, editing, and proofreading correspondence, reports and publications; and handling a wide range of confidential matters. The position responds to requests for information; plans and coordinates internal and external meetings, events, and projects, and is a member of the School’s Leadership Team. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office are necessary. The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with various levels of the faculty, staff, and outside constituents; outstanding customer service orientation; excellent oral and written communications skills; excellent analytical, judgment, and organizational skills; and the ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultural backgrounds. The ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously, to prioritize, and to maintain confidentiality is essential.
