Michael Willis

Mr. Michael Willis is a lecturer in mechanical engineering at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. He received baccalaureate degrees in both nuclear engineering and mathematics from The Pennsylvania State University in 1986, and a master of science in nuclear engineering, also from Penn State, in 1989.

Mr. Willis was selected for Department of Energy Graduate Fellowships both in Nuclear Engineering as well as in Magnetic Fusion in 1988, and was simultaneously selected for a Penn State Excellence in Engineering Graduate Fellowship.

Mr. Willis comes to Penn State with almost 20 years of experience both in industry and education. Immediately preceding his arrival at Penn State, Mr. Willis taught physics and mathematics for approximately eight years at both the community college and secondary levels for which he was named a STEM Teacher Fellow in 2008 by the Anne Arundel County Public School system.

Prior to that, Mr. Willis spent over eleven years at Westinghouse Electric as the Small Break Loss-of-Coolant-Accident SBLOCA lead engineer, responsible for all aspects of the Westinghouse SBLOCA technology development, maintenance, and licensing for the complete fleet of Westinghouse designed reactor coolant systems throughout the world. He continues to consult with Westinghouse on SBLOCA issues.
