Biography

Mr. Michael Lobaugh is a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering Technology at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. He received the B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1986 from the University of Illinois and the M.S. in Engineering Management in 1997 from the University of Massachusetts. Mr. Lobaugh is a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers SME , the American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME , and the American Society of Engineering Educators ASEE .

Mr. Lobaugh came to Penn State Behrend in 2000 with 14 years of experience in industry. He worked at Babcock and Wilcox and for Lord Corporation Ùs Mechanical Products Division in Cambridge Springs, PA. Mr. Lobaugh Ùs specialty interest is in Lean Manufacturing.

Service to business and industry

Lean Manufacturing round table meetings, January-December 2005.

Local industry meeting to discuss and share improvement ideas concerning the introduction and use of lean manufacturing. Those involved included Lord Corporation, Dana Brake, American Meter, Paragon Packaging, and many smaller companies. Penn State Behrend is the only educational facility that is represented at these meetings. The lean manufacturing course taught at Behrend has been able to create educational “bridges” between the students and these local companies to work on lean manufacturing projects as part of the course material.
