School of Engineering Ranked by U.S. News
September 13, 2011 – The School of Engineering at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, has been named among the best undergraduate engineering programs in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report's annual "America’s Best Colleges" rankings, which will hit newsstands on Sept. 20.
U.S. News ranked Penn State Behrend at no. 51 in its "Best
Undergraduate Engineering Programs" for schools that offer bachelor's
or master's as their highest degrees. In total, 193 institutions were
ranked in this category.
Based on its own research, Penn State Behrend's School of Engineering
is one of the largest undergraduate-only engineering schools in the
country.
In order to qualify for the U.S. News ranking, the school's
programs must be accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering
and Technology (ABET). Penn State Behrend's School of Engineering
offers three associate and seven bachelor's degree programs. Each
program is accredited by either ABET's Engineering Accreditation
Commission (EAC) or its Technology Accreditation Commission
(TAC).
Rankings are based solely on the peer judgments of deans and senior
faculty, who were surveyed in spring 2011.
