Tired of that Zenith television collecting dust in your garage? What about that RAZR phone stuffed in the back of your desk?
Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will host its first Electronic Recycling Event on May 8. The event, co-sponsored by the Greener Behrend Task Force and Lion Surplus, allows Penn State Behrend faculty members, staff, and students an opportunity to dispose of used electronics. Items will be accepted from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Wilson Picnic Grove.
The service is free, and all of the electronics will be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. They are transported to a United States licensed facility to be separated, so parts can be reused and recycled.
“The event is important because electronic waste is so hard to dispose of,” said Ann Quinn, the faculty adviser for the Greener Behrend Task Force. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to get rid of things that we may have been holding onto.”
Acceptable items include television sets, CPUs, monitors, hard drives, keyboards, peripherals, printers, circuit boards, laptops, DVD players, electric typewriters, fax machines, cellphones, modems, pagers, PDAs, VCRs, and word processors.
Organizers do have the right to refuse any items brought in for the drop-off, and items will only be accepted during the date and time mentioned above.
