Winter Wonderland NEW

Outdoor Adventures

Join us in the Penn State Behrend Outback as we enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, playing camp games, learning camp safety, exploring the creek, making nature crafts, enjoying camp snacks, and participating in many more exciting outdoor adventures! You're guaranteed to get dirty so come prepared for class by bringing old sneakers or water shoes, a water bottle, a towel, a backpack, a change of clothes, and other items that one might bring on a hiking excursion.

Making Video Games!         

Ever played a video game? Ever wanted to make *make* a video game? Participants will utilize a program that uses very basic programming to teach STEM concepts, engage students in technical development activities, develop logical thinking and reasoning skills, and above all, have fun!

Acting for the Stage 1         

Join us in fun games, hilarious skits, and group activities developed for the stage. Laugh and learn many of the same techniques your favorite actors use while preparing and performing their roles. The class will culminate with a performance on the last day of class.

Discover the amazing diversity of insects hiding in plain sight!  We will spend the week blitzing the outdoors for insects of all shapes and sizes and learn the basic skills to identify many common species of  the insects we find.

Ocean Explorers      

Jump into a study of the ocean! See what lives in the Kelp Forest, Coral Reef and Midnight Zone. Science experiemnts and art projects will allow participants to "explore" these interesting salt water bodies.

Surviving the Outback        

This outdoor, hands-on class will take place in the Penn State Behrend Outback. Participants will learn wilderness survival skills, shelter building, fire making, and basic hunting and stalking.

Journey to the Art of Drawing       

Experience the wonders of drawing. Throughout class, students will learn the basics of shading, texture and primitive perspective. Participants will use these techniques to draw new animals, people and landscapes.

Face Painting 101 NEW       

This class is designed for the budding artist whose canvas cannot be limited to a simple piece of paper and doesn't mind getting a little messy! Participants will learn basic shapes, brush strokes and techniques to paint on the face and body while taking turns being the artist and the canvas. This class will provide a fun opportunity for participants to learn and practice beginning skills in the art of face and body painting.

Learn about beautiful butterflies, creepy spiders, trees, and woodland animals while exploring nature. Come dressed to explore and  investigate the trails and meadows around Penn State Behrend.

Jungle Adventures  

Lions and tigers and bears . . . oh my! Join us for Jungle Adventures where students will have the chance to learn about a variety of animals that live in the jungle. We will investigate where these animals live, what they eat, and how we can protect them. On the last day of class we will take an ""expedition"" to the Erie Zoo where students can see all of the animals they learned about during the week.

Please note: a parent/guardian must provide transportation and accompany their children at the zoo. The program will NOT assume responsibility for children during the field trip.

ABCs of Martial Arts

Students will learn the Agility, Balance, Coordination, and the other twenty-three corresponding letters that teach self-confidence, self-control, self-discipline, and self-defense. Practice a combination of kicks, punches, and parries, and learn to escape from the most commonly applied street holds. Also learn verbal Judo (how to redirect behaviors with words). Comfortable clothing required!
