New Student Orientation

For an overview of the process after you accept your offer to Penn State visit Admissions Accepted Students.


All new first-year students to Penn State must participate in New Student Orientation (NSO). At NSO, you will meet with faculty and staff, begin to develop goals for your time at Penn State, learn about campus resources, and schedule courses for your first semester. Before proceeding with your required NSO steps, you must activate your Access Account (email from identity [at] This will be different from the Friends of Penn State (FPS) account you created to apply to Penn State, and action is required on your part.


Once you activate your Access Account, NSO is a five step process:

Step 1: Complete your Educational Planning Survey


Step 2: Take your ALEKS Math Assessment

Step 3: Make Your Reservation to Attend


Step 4: Do your Pre-NSO Homework (available in June)


Step 5: Attend New Student Orientation (late June to mid July)

**After you have completed the ALEKS Math Assessment and Educational Planning Survey, students will receive an email from Student Orientation & Transition Programs ( inviting students to make a reservation (available in mid-April) for a New Student Orientation date.**
