Applications and Scholarships

Scholarships

  • Penn State Behrend has scholarships for students that demonstrate financial need. If you are planning to transfer to another campus or college of the University, it’s likely that scholarships are available there too.
  • The Global Programs Office provides both need-based and merit-based scholarships to students at all university locations.
  • Certain programs, such as The Institute for the International Education of Students (IES), also offer scholarships based on merit, need and other factors.
  • There are also national scholarships, such as the Gilman Scholarship and National Security Education Program.

For information on amounts of awards, eligibility criteria, deadlines, and application support, see the study abroad advisor. Call 814-898-6140 or email to schedule an appointment.

Applications

Forms and application methods differ from program to program, but most are online and ask variations of the following questions:

  • Why did you choose this program?
  • What you will gain from living in another culture?
  • Which graduation requirements will the courses you take overseas coomplete?
  • How does studying abroad fit in with your career goals?

Full-semester programs ask for a listing of courses you might take abroad. All programs require at least one faculty recommendation, some require two. When you’ve decided on a program and are ready to apply, see the study abroad advisor to review the process for your program. Call 814-898-6140 or email to schedule an appointment.
